The deHavilland DH.104 Dove 8 is a British short-haul airliner that was developed and manufactured by deHavilland. It served as a monoplane successor to the pre-war Dragon Rapide biplane. The Dove was designed to meet the Brabazon Committee's requirement for a British-designed short-haul feeder aircraft for airlines. Unlike its predecessor, the Dragon Rapide, the Dove featured an all-metal structure, constant-speed propellers, flaps, and a retractable tricycle undercarriage. It was considered one of Britain's most successful postwar civil designs, with over 500 aircraft produced between 1946 and 1967. The Dove also had military variants, including the Devon operated by the Royal Air Force and the Sea Devon used by the Royal Navy. Additionally, it saw service with several overseas military forces. A longer four-engined development of the Dove, intended for less developed regions of the world, was known as the Heron. Australia also built a three-engined variant called the deHavilland Australia DHA-3 Drover.

The specific Dove G-AREA, was originally registered by the deHavilland Aircraft Company in 1961. Due to the company's acquisition, it was later transferred to Hawker Siddeley Aviation in 1963. Today, G-AREA is preserved as part of the collection at the deHavilland Aircraft Museum in London Colney, Hertfordshire.
