Byrd's BackCountry is an outdoor paradise located on the banks of the Mulberry River in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. At Byrd's, you can canoe, kayak, or fish down the Mulberry, hike the Ozark Highlands Trail, eat at the riverside restaurant, drive rock-climbing trails, mountain biking trails, or anything else that nature provides. But we're not here for all that today. We're here to haul ass a few feet off the ground and conquer the challenging ArkanSTOL Backwoods Challenge course with the best time.
NOTAMS:
* The qualifying course has not changed, so the 2.0 version should work fine. Reminder that you can only have 1 version of the scenery in your Community folder at a time.
* Videos are on the way to explain official 2023 rules & penalties concerning the new landing zone on Traveler, along with the new scoring system for your competitions.
Virtual ArkanSTOL 2023 - As a result of our continuing partnership with the real ArkanSTOL organizers, TPC will be hosting a virtual ArkanSTOL event. The winners of said event will be announced along with the winners of the real event at ArkanSTOL. If you think you have what it takes, go to the above link and sign up.
For the veterans, forget everything you know about ArkanSTOL. This course has been made both safer AND more challenging at the same time. You'll be tasked with clearing pylons on takeoff, flying above them prior to landing, and being judged on your landing distance.
51AR is included in the base game. Below are some of the features for this package:
* Correct runways. All appropriate runways are now included in the scenery.
* Cut the grass on all runways and taxiways
* Added the appropriate windsocks (yes, they're too big)
* Added numerous parking spaces
* Added a lot of scenery objects, including fences, car parking, hangar, etc
* Corrected vegetation throughout the area
* Corrected dozens of water issues throughout the area (including adding water to many ponds)
* Corrected much of the landmarks that are used to fly a visual approach (i.e. powerline areas that were previously covered with trees)
v2.1 - 2023 Official Course Layout Update
* Adjusted Driftwood to more accurately reflect it's condition at the real course (wider & shorter)
* Added new 200ft landing zone marker on Traveler
* Adjusted landing measurement markers up to 900 ft on River
* Repaired terrain issues brought on by MSFS SDK update
* Removed the scratch line on River as it is no longer necessary
v2.0 - 2022 Official Course Layout Update
* Added the new Driftwood runway
* Separated 2 different files for qualifying and event day layouts
* Added pylons for the different layouts
* Added in-sim measurements for landing distance
* Made numerous changes to foliage and water to continue to make it more realistic
* Changed competitor parking to their new location south of the River Strip
ArkanSTOL Route: The 2023 Course has you taking off at the start line on the River Strip, landing on Traveller before turning around and taking off again. From here, you'll overfly the River Strip, and overfly the big pine tree and tree between the cabins to line yourself up to Driftwood. You will fly above the pylons before landing on the very narrow Driftwood. Here you will turn around and take off again, making sure you give yourself enough room to clear the pylons, and overfly the big trees again on your way to the River Strip. At the River Strip, you will once again fly above the pylons before dropping down, landing, and coming to a complete stop where your stopping distance will be measured
Power Poles are here: Wires are not included, but stay above the poles for a clean run.
Dependencies: Make sure to check the library dependencies for the full experience. Most of these are for static items, such as campers, hay bales, people, camping tents, campfires, etc etc. I do consider Windy Things to be mandatory, as this place is littered with windsocks, and they have created a great one that fits well here.
Will It ArkanSTOL?
ArkanSTOL is a demanding, challenging course. It takes skill to fly properfly whether you fly it in real life or in the simulator. Not every plane has the capability to fly this course, so below we will attempt to answer the age-old question: Will It ArkanSTOL? If you want a plane added to the list, submit a video in the comments of you completing the course in said plane, and I'll be happy to add it.
