Description:
Welcome to my rendition of my home airport, Norwood Memorial (KOWD). Located just southwest of the City of Boston, Norwood is a bustling Class D contolled airspace airport (seeing over 55,000 operations per year) situated under Boston's class B shelf. The airport is home to multiple flight schools, tour operators, helicopter operations, FBO's, car rental facilities, and Taso's EuroCafe, featuring great Greek food and a takeout window serving ice cream treats. The airport also sees seasonal service to the island of Nantucket, provided by Southern Airways Express.
About this Project (What this is, and what this ISN'T):
After taking a look at the default KOWD in the sim I found myself very underwhelmed and decided to do something about it; this is the first project I have uploaded, and started with a plan to only model a few custom buildings (since in addition to being my first MSFS project, I was also new to Blender and learning that at the same time.) However, what started as a few buildings turned into "Why would I only do a couple and leave the airport half done?" So from there I continued until the entire airport was customized, and have spent over a couple hundred of hours on this project.
My goal has been to recreate most buildings and the current airport layout to some reasonable degree of believeability; it is NOT designed to be an exact real-world replica, and not every single thing has been modeled; I have taken some artistic liberties, using a combination of both custom objects and stock ones, in order to create a secenery that is (hopefully) reasonably realistic while also being performance friendly.
This is simply version 1.0, a version I felt was, at this time, good enough for release, but my plan is to continuously update the project over time.
Features:
- Custom modeled buildings created in Blender for all major buildings on the airport property
- Completely redone taxiways and runways to match current layout
- All taxiway signs redone
- Parking spots and markings all recreated from scratch
- Other environmental improvements such as terraforming, exlcusion of some vegetation where it shouldn't be, and lighting updated
Planned Future Updates:
Some planned upgrades at this time (not a complete list):
- Additional terraforming near the Admin. building and sitting area on the hill (this has been one of the biggest struggles with the project so far)
- Additional custom ground markings and textures
- Additional ground clutter near Taso's (picnic tables, umbrellas, etc.), as well as around hangars
- Multiple LOD's for most buildings to further enhance performance
Installation:
Simply copy both of the folders to your Community folder, or outside folder of your choice and add a symbolic link with your favorite add-on manager!

My special thanks to the Ben's and Tori as well, for putting up with me during this project, and passing along all the photos...
As montioned I spent over a few hundred hours on this project, and I hope you enjoy it! If you notice any issues or have any suggestions for future updates, please feel free to pass them along.
The scenery is, of course, free, but if you like the scenery please feel free to spread the word, and you can always buy me a coffee!

What a great choice to do Norwood, and include Taso's Cafe. Great destination for a $100 hamburger flight, only no hamburgers at Taso's so it will be a sub or piita sandwich, or pasta, pizza, or a greek salad. And then some sightseeing over Boston and Providence!

This is where I took my flight instruction 25 years ago. Thank you!
