Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, is a modern metropolis with Japanese colonial alleys, bustling shopping streets and contemporary buildings. The cityscape is marked by the 509-meter-tall bamboo-shaped Taipei 101 skyscraper, featuring high-end shops and a fast elevator to an observatory near the top.
